Peterbilt Pride: Mike Young
Peterbilt Atlantic is blessed with some pretty remarkable customers. During these tough and confusing times, truck drivers have been vital in transporting essential goods across the country regardless of border closures and lock down procedures. We wanted to highlight a particular customer and driver, Mike Young, for lending a helping hand to a family adopting a puppy.
Mike’s Story
Mike was scrolling Facebook one day and came across a story of Jim Hughes, a gentleman in Nova Scotia in the process of adopting a new dog. Unfortunately, the Irish Setter he wanted was all the way in Ottawa, and, due to non-essential travel being banned between provinces, Jim was unable to pick up his pup. Knowing he would be trucking in the Ottawa area, Mike reached out to Jim and his family and volunteered to bring the puppy to them. Within a few days, Mike was able to successfully deliver the new dog to Jim’s home.
Soon after, Mike’s story of transporting dogs went viral. He had people from across the Maritimes reaching out asking if it was possible if he could do the same for them. Mike has already brought joy to four other homes and is planning to bring five more puppies to different families across Atlantic Canada in the coming weeks. Mike has also enlisted the help of some friends at Maritimes Ride and Pride to deliver some pups.
About Mike
Mike has been owner operator at Kingsco Transport in Sussex, New Brunswick for six years. He typically works in the Maritimes and the eastern regions of Ontario, Quebec and the United States. His interest in trucks stemmed from his father who drove mostly International brand. After graduating from high school, Mike began trucking and remain on the road 37 years later.
Mike and Peterbilt
Mike loves his Peterbilt trucks. To him, the trucking industry is more than just transporting a truck from one place to another, it's a lifestyle and that’s exactly what Peterbilt represents. He describes owning a Peterbilt as owning a truck with class as well as being “on top of the game”.
When it comes to Peterbilt Atlantic, Mike describes his experience as so:
“I like Peterbilt Atlantic because I am not just another driver there, the service and sales departments take great interest in my needs, and make sure my life is easier by looking after my needs. Always smiling faces and I consider them my friends. They are fair, and I always come away with more than I bargain for. You don’t find that anyplace today in the industry in a world of zero accountability.”
Mike’s Favourites
One of his favourite places to eat when he's on the road is Master Steaks in Mississauga, Ontario. The food has stayed the same since the 80s which gives Mike a nostalgic feel every time he visits. Master Steaks reminds him of when he began driving career in the 80s.
His favourite route is the Trans-Canada highway from Fredericton to Quebec. The scenic road makes the drive more enjoyable as well as the joy of almost being home to Fredericton. He calls it the “down river boogie”.
Thank you Mike!
